Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Lieu-dit "Bonnivières" 2024 Yves Cuilleron

Tasting notes

Colour
With a deep, powerful black colour, this wine reveals remarkable visual depth.

Nose
The bouquet opens with great freshness, exuding aromas of red cherries and cherry blossom, subtly complemented by delicate savoury nuances.

Palate
The texture is silky, fresh and concentrated. Carried by bright acidity and remarkably elegant tannins, this wine unfolds into a long, pure finish, marked by hints of violet and a chalky minerality.

Food and wine pairing

Suggested by the estate with a venison stew with morello cherries, this red wine will also pair wonderfully with red meats, roasted game or dishes featuring wild mushrooms and truffles.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Lieu-dit "Bonnivières" 2024, serving between 16 and 18°C is recommended, ideally after decanting for one to three hours. This wine, built for long-term ageing, can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2040.

The elegance and minerality of a great Côte-Rôtie wine

The estate

Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron in Chavanay, the estate has established itself as a key reference in the northern Rhône Valley. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been at the helm of the property. This former mechanic has transformed the modest 3.5-hectare family vineyard into an institution spanning more than 70 hectares. Rejecting conventional labels, the winemaker cultivates a strong personal philosophy, focused on producing the best possible grapes and authentically expressing his terroirs through distinctive single-plot cuvées.

The vineyard

Located in the commune of Ampuis, at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, the Bonnivières plot benefits from an east-facing exposure on extremely steep slopes. This dizzying topography requires entirely manual vine work. The terroir is distinguished by its mica-schist soils, which offer excellent drainage and lend the grapes a distinctive minerality. Part of this lieu-dit is planted with old vines, whose yields are rigorously controlled to ensure optimal concentration.

The vintage

This vintage is characterised by balanced climatic conditions, offering fine phenolic ripeness without excessive alcohol levels. This year allowed for great freshness to be preserved and delicate volatile compounds to be maintained, encouraging the emergence of a particularly floral profile.

Winemaking and ageing

After manual harvesting and meticulous sorting directly in the vineyard, the berries ferment thanks to indigenous yeasts. Vinification takes place in traditional open vats, punctuated by manual punching down and pumping over during a maceration period of around three weeks. The Lieu-dit "Bonnivières" 2024 is then aged for 18 months in barrels, with a proportion of new oak carefully adapted to the profile of the year.
