Tasting notes

Nose

The nose opens with notes of walnuts and dried fruit, followed by indulgent caramel.

Palate

The palate evokes sweet rye bread, honey, raisins and walnuts. The whisky is ample and rich, with the mellow character imparted by the Sherry Oloroso cask finish. The finish is peppery.

Other characteristics

This rye whisky is bottled at 47.2% ABV in a 70 cl bottle. It is made from 100% Finnish whole rye, 100% malted, and distilled in a pot still. It is aged in ex-bourbon casks as well as new French and American oak casks. It is completed with a Sherry Oloroso cask finish.

Kyrö Distillery Company: the expression of rye in a Finnish whisky

Kyrö was born from an idea hatched in a sauna by five friends. They wanted to produce rye whisky in a country where this grain is ubiquitous. The distillery is located in Isokyrö, in Ostrobothnia, in a former dairy that has been converted. Since then, rye has remained at the heart of its identity. It is arguably the most difficult grain to distil because of its temperament, and the house makes its whiskies exclusively from Finnish whole rye. This Finnish whisky has a Nordic style: bold and contemporary. Kyrö is an independent private company, founded by these five friends. Kalle Valkonen is its master distiller.

Rye Malt Oloroso: a Finnish rye malt shaped by Sherry

This Rye Malt Oloroso is a rye whisky made from 100% Finnish whole rye, fully malted. It is distilled in a pot still. It is then aged in ex-bourbon casks, French oak casks and new American oak casks, before a Sherry Oloroso cask finish. This finish gives the whisky a rich, mellow character.
