Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Kyrö Rye Malt Whisky
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic, complex nose opens with pepper, vanilla, caramel and dried fruit. An earthy rye base and notes of dark rye bread follow. With aeration, candied apricot, sultanas and earthy spices emerge, while a hint of chocolate and coffee lingers in the background.
Palate
The palate is built around sweet rye bread, honey and wild berries. It also reveals rye bread spread with Seville orange marmalade, along with blueberry, vanilla, black pepper and dark chocolate. Brown sugar and toasted oak balance the spicy character of the rye. The smooth, long finish leaves lingering notes of rye spice, butterscotch, mocha and quince.
Other characteristics
This Finnish rye whisky, made from 100% malted rye, is bottled at 47.2% ABV. It is released without an age statement, after a minimum maturation of three years.

Kyrö Distillery, the spirit of Finnish rye whisky
Kyrö is a Finnish distillery founded in 2012 by five friends in Isokyrö, in South Ostrobothnia. It was set up in a former dairy built in 1908, and its stills have been in operation since 2014. The distillery has specialised in rye, the raw material for its whiskies, and also produces gins, including Napue. An independent, privately funded distillery, it remains majority-owned by its founders. Finnish rye lies at the heart of Kyrö Distillery's identity, and its whiskies are distilled on site in Isokyrö.
A malted rye whisky, the cornerstone of the Kyrö range
Kyrö Rye Malt Whisky is crafted exclusively from whole malted rye of entirely Finnish origin. This grain, central to the distillery's identity, gives the whisky its spicy character and rye bread profile. The spirit is twice distilled in pot stills, then aged for at least three years in new American white oak casks, which help to balance the spicy character of the rye.
