The estate
Founded in February 1999 by Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini, Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos spans 110 to 130 hectares across more than 200 plots in the heart of Ribera del Duero, in Castile and León. The Masaveu and Nozaleda families joined the estate in 2006. Mariano García, who served as Technical Director at Vega Sicilia for three decades, applies a minimal-intervention philosophy that favors the expression of terroir.
The vineyard
Blanco de Parcela Fuente de las Hontanillas 2024 comes from a single plot located in Quintanilla de Arriba in the province of Valladolid, in Castile and León. Perched at over 850 meters above sea level, this vineyard benefits from particular climatic conditions that promote slow, balanced ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
Autumn was marked by multiple fronts bringing over 250 millimeters of rainfall, with temperatures above seasonal averages. December saw the first fogs accompanied by a sharp drop in temperatures. Winter proved cold and rainy. From mid-March, unusually high temperatures, reaching up to 27°C, led to an early budbreak in early April. On April 23 and 24, severe frosts hit the Ribera, causing considerable damage in certain areas. May experienced persistent instability with localized hailstorms. June alternated mild days and cool nights, then warm days and mild nights. July was characterized by variable temperatures and a lack of rainfall. August combined heat and storms, ending with instability affecting the entire country. Harvest began on September 16 under unstable weather conditions.
Winemaking and aging
Blanco de Parcela Fuente de las Hontanillas 2024 benefited from aging in oak barrels, which imparts structure and complexity while preserving the wine’s fresh fruit.
Grape varieties
This white wine is primarily made from verdejo, complemented by small proportions of godello and albillo mayor.
