The estate
Arthur Gras embodies the new generation of Domaine Alain Gras, founded in 1979 in Saint-Romain, Burgundy. This family estate covers 15 hectares, spread across Saint-Romain, Auxey-Duresses and Meursault. Today, the estate is family-run by Alain, Nathalie and Arthur (who joined in 2020) and focuses on sustainable viticulture with manual harvesting and traditional aging in barrels.
The vineyard
Clos de Verger is almost a monopole located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Pommard. This Premier Cru climat benefits from a full southern exposure, which is particularly warm in the afternoon, on a gentle slope. The vineyard covers 32 ares and 92 centiares and is planted with 40-year-old Pinot Noir vines.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Pommard 1er Cru "Clos de Verger" 2023 are harvested by hand. Vinification includes 20% whole bunches and a 10-day maceration period with pump-overs and punch-downs, followed by pneumatic pressing. Aging takes place entirely in barrels for 12 months before bottling, allowing for a limited production of 2,000 bottles.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir
