Description
A fresh and well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand
The estate
Cloudy Bay was founded in 1985 by David Hohnen in Marlborough and has established itself as a pioneer of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Owned by LVMH, the estate farms 140 hectares on the gravelly soils of the Wairau Valley. Committed to sustainability, the estate will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025, reaffirming its status as an international benchmark.
The vineyard
The Sauvignon Blanc "Te Koko" 2021 comes from parcels in the Wairau Valley, located in Motukawa, Widow’s Block, Mustang, and Brook Street. These old vines are rooted in warm, perfectly well-drained gravel soils that encourage optimal ripening of Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaking and aging
After gentle pressing, the must of the Sauvignon Blanc "Te Koko" is clarified for 24 hours, then filled directly into oak barrels and large wooden casks. Alcoholic fermentation proceeds slowly over several months. The wine is aged for 11 months on fine lees in barrels, large wooden casks, and concrete tanks. During the final maturation, a less oxidative approach is favored, using stainless-steel tanks, concrete, and large wooden vats. The blend is assembled after aging.
Grape variety
Te Koko 2021 from Cloudy Bay is 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
