A Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin with a refined character and mineral elegance
The estate
Founded in 1782, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is located between the villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vougeot in Burgundy. Since December 2018, the estate has been owned by the Bouygues family (51%) and the de Surrel family. Spanning 13.5 hectares across five Grands Crus, the estate farms some of the oldest plots in the Côte de Nuits, under organic and biodynamic viticulture. Bastien Giraud has been in charge of technical direction since 2023, continuing the environmental commitment initiated by Jean de Surrel in the 1980s.
The vineyard
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is the oldest walled plot in Burgundy, established by the monks of the Abbey of Bèze in 630. The estate’s parcel covers 0.33 hectares with 35-year-old vines. The soils, made up of red clay, limestone and crushed stones, benefit from an ideal mid-slope exposure to the morning sun. Yields are limited to 21 hectoliters per hectare.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a severe winter frost affecting vineyards across France. Flowering at the end of May was followed by particularly rainy months of June and July. Weather instability from mid-July to mid-August preceded an early harvest on September 1, producing a tiny crop but harmonious, elegant wines with moderate alcohol and a clearly defined Burgundian character.
Vinification and aging
For the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2021, the first separate vinification of this parcel—historically blended into Chambertin—the grapes are hand-harvested and then sorted. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts over two to three weeks, with 20 to 50% whole clusters. Aging is carried out in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months.
