Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Pinot Noir" 2021 from Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale ruby-red hue with vermilion highlights, revealing lovely clarity and a transparency characteristic of the vintage.
Nose
The nose reveals a pure, delicate expression, marked by aromas of small summer red and black fruits, notably red cherry and raspberry. Floral notes of white blossoms and red rose add a perfumed dimension, while touches of gentle spice and minerality harmoniously complete the bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, this wine charms with its elegant structure and fine, well-defined tannins, suggesting a taffeta-like texture. The body is medium, with bright acidity that brings freshness and energy. Supple tannins create a refined balance, allowing the red fruit and minerality to express themselves clearly. The finish lingers elegantly, leaving a juicy impression and a character that pleasantly returns on the palate.
Food and wine pairings
This Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Pinot Noir" 2021 is a perfect match for roasted poultry, notably chicken and turkey. It also pairs very well with white meats such as roasted veal, cream- and mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged cheeses such as Gruyère or Comté. Feathered game birds and roasted vegetables—especially mushrooms and root vegetables—also make excellent pairings.
Serving and cellaring
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Pinot Noir" 2021 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 14 and 15°C. No decanting is necessary; the wine can be served directly from a carafe or in Burgundy-style glasses. This wine can be enjoyed now and through around 2028.
A delicate and aromatic Burgundian Pinot Noir
The estate
The Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils represents seven generations of winegrowers established in the heart of Meursault, in Burgundy. Since 1999, Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau has run this family estate, which covers around 12.5 hectares. The domaine was modernized in 2008 with the construction of a new cellar located on Rue Robert Thénard in Meursault. Recognized as one of the most precise producers in the appellation, Jean-Baptiste practices uncertified organic and biodynamic viticulture, favoring observation and respect for each terroir to craft wines of great purity and elegance.
The vineyard
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Pinot Noir" 2021 comes from around 0.33 hectares of Pinot Noir vines planted in 1966. The plots lie on clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Beaune, offering a distinctive mineral backbone. These young vines, farmed according to organic principles with plowing and without herbicides since 2005, receive meticulous attention throughout the growing season. The harvest is carried out by hand, with several passes to select grapes at optimal ripeness.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy proved particularly cool, marking the first true cool-climate vintage since 2014 or 2008. The season was punctuated by challenges, with spring frosts, difficult conditions during flowering, and a late harvest. These conditions resulted in significantly reduced yields. Despite these constraints, the 2021 vintage stands out for exceptional transparency of terroir, with Pinot Noirs featuring thin skins, developing delicate floral characters and great vibrancy. The wines show moderate alcohol levels and remarkable energy, evoking classic Burgundian vintages.
Winemaking and aging
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or "Pinot Noir" 2021 is vinified using a minimalist approach that respects the fruit. After destemming, the grapes undergo a cold soak, allowing gentle extraction of aromas and color. Fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, preserving the wine’s natural complexity. Aging takes place in French oak barrels for twelve to sixteen months, with a proportion of new oak adapted to the character of the vintage, allowing the wine to develop structure while retaining its natural finesse.
