Description
Tasting Characteristics and Recommendations for the Meursault Village "Le Limozin" 2021 from Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a pale golden-yellow hue, sometimes enhanced by greenish highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals lovely aromatic complexity. Aromas of white-fleshed fruit dominate, with ripe peach and apricot, accompanied by citrus notes recalling lemon, mandarin, and orange zest. Delicate floral touches of hawthorn and linden blossom add finesse. In the background, more indulgent notes emerge of fresh and toasted hazelnut, browned butter, brioche, and subtle vanilla. A distinctive minerality reminiscent of flint, or a saline touch, appears with aeration.
Palate
The attack on the palate is both rich and generous. The silky, creamy texture—born of extended aging on fine lees—is paired with vibrant acidity that structures the whole and brings freshness. The palate echoes stone-fruit flavors of peach and apricot, complemented by notes of preserved lemon, orange, almond, and hazelnut, with subtle spicy nuances. The balance between breadth and elegance defines this vertical palate. The finish stands out for its remarkable length and lingering freshness, leaving a delicate imprint with a saline mineral touch.
Food and wine pairings
This Meursault Village "Le Limozin" 2021 pairs perfectly with fish in a cream sauce, grilled lobster, or seafood with beurre blanc. It also matches beautifully with scallops and other shellfish prepared with delicate sauces. Cream-based poultry dishes—especially Bresse chicken—are classic pairings. Certain veal preparations with creamy or buttery sauces also find an excellent partner in this wine. Finally, a selection of artisanal cheeses with a creamy texture and moderate intensity rounds out the tasting harmoniously.
Serving and cellaring
This Meursault Village "Le Limozin" 2021 can be enjoyed now to appreciate its freshness and fruit-forward expression. However, it will gain in complexity with a few years in the cellar and can be kept until around 2028. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C.
An outstanding Meursault village from an exceptional terroir in Bourgogne
The estate
The Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils embodies seven generations of winemaking expertise in Meursault. Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau, representing the seventh generation, officially took the helm of the estate in 1999 after working alongside his father Michel. Since 2005, he has led a transition to organic farming, completely eliminating the use of herbicides, and then gradually adopted biodynamic practices without seeking official certification. In 2008, the construction of a new winery in the heart of the village of Meursault made it possible to refine parcel-by-parcel vinification. The estate now covers around eleven hectares, a deliberately limited size to ensure meticulous attention to each plot. Recognized by La Revue du Vin de France among the three-star circle alongside the greatest names in Meursault, the estate is praised for the consistency, precision, and elegance of its wines, which express their terroir without caricature.
The vineyard
The lieu-dit "Le Limozin" is one of the most renowned village parcels in Meursault, often considered worthy of a premier cru classification. Situated mid-slope with an eastern exposure, this Climat benefits from a prime position between the premier crus Les Genévrières and Les Charmes, near Porusots. The soils consist of well-drained clay-limestone with Jurassic limestone scree in the upper sections. The estate owns forty ares within this parcel, which totals fifty-three ares overall. The vines were fully replanted in 2018, reflecting Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau’s long-term vision for this exceptional terroir.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Bourgogne benefited from generally favorable conditions despite a few challenges. Winter was marked by an exceptionally severe frost episode affecting the entire French vineyard. A milder spring enabled flowering at the end of May, followed by particularly rainy months of June and July. Weather instability was observed from mid-July to mid-August. Late-summer and September conditions nonetheless made it possible to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness in the grapes.
Vinification and aging
The grapes for the Meursault Village "Le Limozin" 2021 were harvested by hand at optimal phenolic ripeness. After slow, gentle pressing, the must was settled for twenty-four hours before being transferred to barrels with the fine lees. Alcoholic fermentation and then malolactic fermentation occurred spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine was then aged on fine lees for an extended period, with lees stirring carried out only when necessary. Aging took place over twelve months in oak barrels, around 25% of which were new, followed by four months in stainless-steel tank to refine the wine’s mineral definition and verticality. Bottling was carried out without fining or filtration, in keeping with the lunar calendar between November and March.
