An outstanding Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon crafted at the foot of the Andes Mountains
The estate
Viña Santa Rita farms vineyards in the Central Valley, notably in the prestigious areas of Carneros Viejo, Alto Jahuel and Maipo Alto, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Under the direction of winemakers Sebastián Labbé and Teresita Ovalle, this Chilean estate produces exceptional cuvées such as Casa Real, a pure Cabernet Sauvignon aged for twenty months in French oak barrels.
The vineyard
The Casa Real vineyards are located in the areas of Carneros Viejo, Alto Jahuel and Maipo Alto, at the foot of the Andes Mountains in the Maipo Valley. The Mediterranean climate is marked by a remarkable diurnal temperature range exceeding 18°C between day and night. The alluvial soils consist of an 80 to 100 cm top layer of silt resting on rounded pebbles, gravel and coarse sand with deep clay. The estate’s finest parcels date back to the 1970s.
The vintage
Hand harvesting took place between March 20 and April 22, 2019.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation of Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 was carried out in small stainless-steel and concrete vats at a temperature between 24 and 26°C. A post-fermentation maceration of 4 to 6 days was performed. The wine then underwent aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, 82% new and 18% second-year barrels. Bottling was carried out without filtration or fining.
