Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Cristal and 2 Flutes 2013 by Louis Roederer
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a golden hue, enhanced by delicate luminous reflections.
Nose
Intense and complex, the nose reveals aromas of yellow fruits (mirabelle plum), juicy sun-drenched fruits (nectarine), citrus zest (candied orange) and dried fruits (hazelnut) with subtly toasted accents. It seduces with a powdery olfactory impression, at once sweet, chalky and refined.
Palate
Ample and generous, the palate captivates with a subtly vibrant effervescence, offering the palate silky, dense and juicy nuances.
A reflection of its exceptional terroir, this cuvée stands out for its assertive chalky freshness. Lively and sapid, the sweetness reinforces the precision of a palate that harmoniously blends elegance and power. Tannins of remarkable finesse intertwine indulgently with a flavourful, saline finish.
A vintage Champagne by Louis Roederer presented in an elegant gift box
The estate
Established in 1776 in Reims, the Champagne Louis Roederer House has managed to remain a family-owned and independent business. After more than two centuries of history, it is still in the hands of one and the same family. Today led by Frédéric Rouzaud, representative of the seventh generation, the Louis Roederer House shines around the world as a symbol of Champenois excellence, thanks to cuvées crafted with the care and precision of an artist.
The vineyard
With some 241 hectares of vines, the Louis Roederer estate draws its singularity from a remarkable vineyard, made up exclusively of Grands and Premiers Crus spread across the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. A true kaleidoscope of terroirs, this vineyard unfolds across 410 parcels that convey all the variety and richness of Champagne soils.
The wine
The House's emblematic cuvée, first conceived in 1876 at the request of the Tsar of Russia, Cristal is blended from 45 exceptional lieux-dits, spread across 7 Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs.
This gift box contains one bottle of Cristal 2013 along with two elegant flutes.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage will be remembered for its particularly late growing cycle. A prolonged winter gave way to a dull and hesitant spring. It was not until the first days of July that flowering reached its full bloom, an uncommon event in Champagne.
Remarkable summer conditions, combining generous sunshine, high temperatures and limited rainfall, made it possible to achieve optimal ripeness of the grapes. Harvested in the cool mildness of autumn, the grapes gave rise to a 2013 vintage Champagne full of elegance and vivacity.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification is carried out in oak barrels for 32%. The dosage of this Louis Roederer Cristal 2013 Champagne is set at 8 g/litre.
Blend
Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%).
