Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Tinus Raisins Rôtis Solera 1720 from Château des Tourettes
Tasting
Nose
The nose reveals remarkable aromatic richness, marked by notes of roasted and candied fruit. Scents of dried apricot and overripe yellow fruit mingle with delicate floral nuances. Complexity builds with subtle spicy touches, reflecting the blend of several vintages according to the solera system.
Palate
On the palate, the wine shows an imposing structure and remarkable density. The limestone minerality of the terroir comes through fully, bringing a tension that balances the fruit’s richness. The texture is creamy and enveloping, while the aromatic persistence carries on generously. Notes of candied fruit and spice lead into a finish with slightly bitter accents, the hallmark of the complexity brought by solera aging.
Food and wine pairings
This sweet wine pairs ideally with seared or semi-cooked foie gras, whose richness harmonizes perfectly with the aromas of roasted fruit. It also matches blue-veined cheeses such as Roquefort, creating a delicious contrast between the wine’s sweetness and the cheese’s salty character. For a bolder pairing, this Tinus Raisins Rôtis Solera 1720 elevates yellow-fruit desserts, notably an apricot tart or a peach crumble.
Serving and cellaring
Tinus Raisins Rôtis Solera 1720 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, allowing its aromatic range to be expressed at its best. No decanting is necessary to fully appreciate this wine.
A Vin de France crafted using the solera method
The estate
Founded in the late 1990s by Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen, Château des Tourettes spans 15 hectares in the Luberon, in the Southern Rhône Valley. Located on the Apt plateau at 420 meters above sea level, the estate is still run by Jean-Marie Guffens, an internationally renowned Burgundy winegrower, alongside his daughter Marie and oenologist Julien Desplans. The property stands out for its refusal of controlled appellations in favor of the Vin de France label, thereby privileging creative freedom and the authentic expression of the terroir. The estate grows both white and red varieties using sustainable practices, in the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park.
The vineyard
This Vin de France comes from vineyards located on the Apt plateau, at 420 meters above sea level. Limestone soils, enriched with clay and chalk, provide ideal conditions for the vines to develop a pronounced minerality. The altitude creates a beneficial microclimate with cool nights that preserve the grapes’ natural freshness, even under a Mediterranean climate. The vines, grown sustainably without the use of harsh chemical products, benefit from a protected environment within a nature reserve. Harvesting is done by hand, early in the morning, to ensure the integrity of the grapes destined for this exceptional cuvée.
The blend
Tinus Raisins Rôtis Solera 1720 is produced using a solera system that brings together the 2017 to 2020 vintages. Traditionally associated with Andalusian wines, this method makes it possible to create a timeless expression that transcends annual climatic variations. Each vintage contributes its own characteristics, harmonized in a complex blend that gains depth and richness over time.
Winemaking and aging
Tinus Raisins Rôtis Solera 1720 is made from grapes that have reached exceptional over-ripeness through passerillage, botrytis, or roasting. The solera system applied to this cuvée involves the gradual blending of several vintages, enabling controlled micro-oxidation and the development of complex flavors. This demanding technique encourages the emergence of rich tertiary aromas and remarkable length on the palate, while preserving the distinctive minerality of the limestone terroir.
