A rare and elegant Chardonnay from Domaine A.F. Gros in Burgundy

The estate
Created in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros today exploits over ten hectares of vines distributed between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, mainly in Pommard and Vosne-Romanée. Since 2013, Caroline and Mathias Parent have managed the estate, perpetuating a viticultural philosophy focused on authenticity and the expression of terroirs. Mathias, responsible for the vines and winemaking, has developed a minimalist approach prioritizing the reduction of new oak to let the character of each climat fully express itself. The estate, recognized as a sure value on the secondary market, produces essentially high-quality Pinot Noirs, making this Chardonnay particularly rare and sought-after.

The vineyard
The "Les Montrevenots" climat, classified as a Beaune Premier Cru, occupies a strategic position at the top of the slope, close to Pommard, with a southwest exposure. Located at an altitude between 300 and 340 meters, this terroir benefits from marly clay-limestone soils that are particularly stony and rich in limestone. This soil composition confers remarkable finesse and distinctive minerality to the wines. The climat takes its name from an ancient Gallo-Roman military camp established in the fifth century and covers a total area of 8.42 hectares. Domaine A.F. Gros owns 26 ares planted with Chardonnay here, offering Mathias Parent the opportunity to explore his talent with this white grape variety.

The vintage
The 2018 vintage figures among the best of the decade for Burgundy. After a cold and rainy winter that built up significant water reserves, the period from April to September was marked by exceptional weather conditions. The hot and dry summer, with summer temperatures maintained until the harvest in September, allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes. The excellent sanitary state, without major disease pressure, authorized winemakers to harvest at ideal maturity. For Burgundy white wines, this vintage favored the expression of a rich aromatic palette, with a palate that is both round and fresh, perfectly balanced, and endowed with real aging potential.

Winemaking and aging
The Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2018 is vinified according to the estate's minimalist philosophy, prioritizing the expression of the terroir. Aging is carried out with a limited proportion of new oak in order to preserve the wine's aromatic purity and natural minerality. No systematic filtration is applied, allowing the wine's natural complexity and potential light sediments in the bottle to be preserved. This respectful approach aims to let the limestone terroir of Les Montrevenots express itself fully.
