Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2021 from Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Appearance

The appearance displays a golden hue with subtle green highlights, a testament to the wine's evolution since bottling.

Nose

The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity with notes of white-fleshed fruit such as peach and yellow plum. Upon aeration, nuances of orange peel, white flowers, and toasted almond gradually unfold, accompanied by pastry notes and delicate spices.

Palate

On the palate, this wine seduces with its remarkable balance. The structure proves harmonious, supported by lively and precise acidity. A discreet creamy texture adds roundness to the palate, while the freshness linked to the terroir's altitude maintains a beautiful tension. Aromas of ripe stone fruits and citrus zest persist through a long, mineral finish, enhanced by a fine bitterness evoking citrus zest and crushed almond.

Food and wine pairings

This white Beaune 1er Cru pairs perfectly with seafood, particularly oysters and shellfish. It also goes very well with white fish prepared with creamy or buttery sauces, as well as roasted or poached poultry. Soft cheeses like Camembert or Brie, as well as aged hard cheeses like Comté, also make excellent pairings.

Service and cellaring

The Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2021 can be enjoyed now and will continue to improve until around 2031. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C.

A Burgundian Chardonnay combining minerality and elegance from Domaine A.F. Gros

The estate

Founded in 1988, Domaine A.F. Gros was born from the union between Anne-Françoise Gros, from the prestigious family of Vosne-Romanée, and François Parent, heir to a line of winemakers from Pommard. Today, the estate is managed by the second generation with Caroline Parent in charge of commercial management and her brother Mathias at the head of viticulture and winemaking. The estate cultivates over 10 hectares distributed across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, producing wines renowned for their elegance and their faithful expression of Burgundian terroirs.

The vineyard

The Montrevenots vineyard is located in Beaune, on the southern limit of the appellation, in the immediate vicinity of Pommard. This Premier Cru plot stands out for its exceptional altitude, exceeding 300 meters, making it one of the highest Premier Crus in Beaune. The soils are composed of limestone marl and white earth, with a high proportion of limestone and clay. This southern exposure and altitude allow for optimal ripening of the Chardonnay while preserving natural freshness and beautiful acidity.

The vintage

The winter of 2021 in Burgundy was marked by an intense frost episode affecting the entire French vineyard. The milder spring favored flowering at the end of May, followed by particularly rainy months of June and July. Meteorological instability continued between mid-July and mid-August, before more favorable conditions at the end of the season allowed for the harvesting of grapes with beautiful aromatic quality and remarkable balance.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2021 are harvested manually with rigorous sorting. Winemaking takes place in vats and oak barrels, with prolonged aging on fine lees for twelve months, accompanied by regular stirring to develop aromatic complexity and texture. The estate favors a low-intervention approach, limiting the use of new wood to preserve the expression of the terroir and the purity of the fruit.
