Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2024 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a golden hue adorned with delicate glints, which tends to intensify over time.

Nose
The nose opens with aromas of ripe orchard fruit such as white peach and yellow plum. It then reveals notes of orange peel, white flowers and toasted almond, before enriching itself with pastry and sweet spice touches upon aeration.

Palate
Combining elegance with a fine substance, the palate stands out for its remarkable freshness linked to the altitude of the terroir. It unfolds flavours of stone fruit and lemon zest, wrapped in a subtly creamy texture. The long, mineral finish is underlined by a delicate spicy touch and a noble bitterness reminiscent of crushed almond.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters or shellfish, as well as with delicate fish such as turbot or sole. It also enhances white meats in creamy sauces, roast poultry, or a mature cheese such as Comté.

Other characteristics

This white wine has an alcohol content of 12%.

The rare and elegant expression of a great white wine from Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros, Domaine A.F. Gros is an emblematic estate of Burgundy. Initially built up from historic family plots, the estate is today run by the second generation, Caroline and Mathias Parent. Based in Pommard with facilities in Beaune, the estate oversees a vineyard of around ten hectares spread across the prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Combining ancestral know-how with environmentally friendly practices, the estate stands out for producing wines of great elegance.

The vineyard

Located on the southern edge of the Beaune appellation, in close proximity to Pommard, the Montrevenots terroir sits at an altitude of over 300 metres. This highly confidential 26-are plot rests on soils composed of calcareous marl and white earth, rich in clay and limestone. This distinctive geology, combined with the altitude, allows the vines to retain a fine natural acidity while reaching optimal ripeness, thereby offering a perfect balance between the finesse of Beaune and the structure of Pommard.

The vintage

2024 proved to be a particularly demanding year in Burgundy, marked by extreme weather conditions. These major meteorological challenges had a strong impact on the vine growth cycle, leading to a drastic drop in yields of around 70% for the estate. Only the most qualitative plots were able to produce a viable harvest, making this an extremely rare vintage.

Winemaking and aging

Following meticulous hand-picking, the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Montrevenots" 2024 Domaine A.F. Gros benefits from a minimal-intervention approach. Aging takes place over an extended period in oak barrels, with moderate use of new wood so as to let the terroir express itself fully. This process is accompanied by regular lees stirring, which encourages the development of aromatic complexity and texture in the wine.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
