Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Cuvée Signature Mathias Parent 2022 from Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
With a bright, vivid violet hue, this wine reveals all the typicity of a Pinot Noir harvested at optimal ripeness.

Nose
The bouquet opens with primary aromas of red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry. It then develops delicate floral notes of rose and violet, complemented by spicy touches of cinnamon and black pepper from its time in oak.

Palate
The attack is smooth and fruit-driven. The mid-palate reveals a beautiful complexity supported by well-managed tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish lingers on mineral and spicy nuances.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, feathered game such as quail or pheasant, as well as duck-based dishes. It also complements grilled or roasted vegetables beautifully.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, this wine can be enjoyed now. It will continue to develop its complexity and can be cellared until around 2032.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13%. It is bottled by gravity and only filtered when necessary, which may result in a slight natural sediment.

The elegance and modernity of a Burgundian Pinot Noir in Vin de France

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is located in Pommard, with facilities in Beaune. This 14-hectare vineyard spans the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Today, the estate is run by the new generation, Caroline and Mathias Parent, who continue the family's tradition of excellence. Known for their approach that blends tradition and innovation, they favour sustainable viticulture. The estate is renowned worldwide for the elegance of its wines.

The vineyard

The Pinot Noir grapes used for this cuvée come from plots located on the limestone soils of the Côte d'Or. The estate practises sustainable farming, without synthetic insecticides or pesticides, favouring manual soil work and pheromone-based pest control. Although the vines are rooted in historic Burgundian terroirs, this wine is classified as Vin de France, offering greater freedom of expression and innovation.

The vintage

2022 offered very favourable ripening conditions in the Côte d'Or. The growing cycle allowed for optimal phenolic ripeness, resulting in an early manual harvest completed around 17 September.

Winemaking and aging

The creation of this cuvée begins with a rigorous double manual sorting of the bunches, before and after destemming. A four- to five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out with daily pump-overs and rack-and-return operations. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts and lasts seven to ten days. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place, with a reduced proportion of new oak to preserve the brightness of the fruit.
