Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2024 Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting
Colour
This wine from France reveals a magnificent deep ruby red colour, showing beautiful clarity.
Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe red fruit, blackberry and strawberry. With aeration, it reveals a lovely aromatic freshness complemented by subtle spicy notes, hints of tea and delicate nuances of cocoa.
Palate
The palate offers a well-developed structure and a rich texture, supported by supple, perfectly integrated tannins. The whole is tender and fruity, with excellent natural acidity that brings precision and freshness, all underscored by discreet oaky notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as braised beef, a rib steak or grilled red meats. It also goes very well with braised lamb, roasted poultry, feathered game such as duck, or spicy dishes like a tagine. On the cheese side, it enhances washed-rind soft cheeses such as Époisses or Ami du Chambertin.
Service and Storage
For optimal enjoyment of the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2024 in its youth, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 14 and 16°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but has ageing potential allowing it to be kept until around 2029.
The Finesse and Precision of a Premier Cru from Aloxe-Corton
The Estate
Founded in the eleventh century as a simple mill, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is today an emblematic figure of Burgundy. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate spans 65 hectares of vines. Acquired in 2012 by the Halley family, it is currently run by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. The estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, illustrated by organic certification obtained in 2022 and the planting of an innovative riparian buffer strip. It produces wines renowned for their authentic expression of Burgundian terroirs.
The Vineyard
The terroir of the Premier Cru Les Maréchaudes lies within the Aloxe-Corton appellation, at the foot of the famous hillside. The vines, around sixty years old, benefit from an east to south-east exposure ideal for grape ripening. They thrive on deep, heavy clay-limestone soils, which ensure excellent water regulation while lending a fine mineral structure.
The Vintage
2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions in Burgundy. Excessive rainfall, well above historical averages, combined with reduced sunshine, resulted in significant disease pressure throughout the growing season. Despite considerably reduced yields, rigorous selection during the harvest made it possible to pick berries of great quality, yielding juice of remarkable freshness and precision.
Winemaking and Aging
For the making of the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Maréchaudes" 2024, the grapes undergo a five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration to extract colour while preserving delicacy. Fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts, then proceeds slowly with minimal punching-down and very gentle pumping-over to favour fine tannins. The wine is finally aged in French oak barrels.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
