Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2022 Jean Chartron
Tasting notes
Colour
Clear and bright, the colour reveals a green-gold hue that reflects the youth of this white wine.
Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals aromas of orchard fruits (apple, pear) and stone fruits such as peach and apricot. Subtle creamy, buttery and hazelnut notes intertwine with a fine reductive touch.
Palate
Full-bodied with a pronounced mineral backbone, the palate offers lovely tension thanks to a vibrant, well-integrated acidity. Energetic and fluid, it stretches towards a saline finish enhanced by delicate toasted notes.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs ideally with grilled fish, shellfish such as lobster or langoustines, as well as fresh cheeses. It also goes wonderfully with poultry in cream and mushroom sauce, freshwater fish or asparagus-based dishes.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2022 between 12 and 14°C. Light, careful decanting can be considered while the wine is young. This wine will develop favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2032.
The precision and minerality of a Burgundy Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic institution located in Puligny-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy in France. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, oversees a 14.5-hectare vineyard spread across prestigious appellations. Certified organic since 2014, the estate combines respect for tradition with rigorous environmental management. The estate is particularly renowned for its expertise in crafting white wines, precisely expressing the richness of their terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Murgers des Dents de Chien" Climat is located on the heights of the Saint-Aubin appellation, at an altitude of around 350 metres, bordering the crus of Puligny-Montrachet. This small 0.371-hectare plot, planted in 1990, takes its name from its extremely stony soil, dotted with white limestone rocks reminiscent of dog's teeth. Resting on silt with a stratified subsoil of marl and Bathonian limestone, this unique terroir gives the vines exceptional minerality and lovely freshness.
The vintage
2022 offered generally favourable climatic conditions, allowing for a harvest of great quality with satisfactory volumes. Despite an end of season marked by a lack of rainfall leading to a concentration of berries in certain areas, the plot's altitude helped preserve an ideal balance. The grapes were thus able to reach optimal aromatic maturity while retaining their natural acidity.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting in the vineyard, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation of the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2022 takes place in oak barrels, 25% of which are new. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in a temperature-controlled cellar, then aging on fine lees for 12 months in cool cellars, with regular lees stirring. The wine is then delicately racked and lightly filtered before resting in tank prior to bottling.
