Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Côte-Rôtie "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 Tardieu Laurent

Tasting

Colour
This red wine from France reveals a purple hue with crimson highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with smoky notes of small red and black berries, mingled with hints of dried flowers, black olive and graphite. On aeration, aromas of morello cherry, crushed black raspberry, peppery herbs and incense emerge.

Palate
The bright attack gives way to a palate of remarkable concentration. The full-bodied, complex texture rests on round, perfectly integrated tannins. Fine acidity underpins the whole, bringing plenty of freshness through to a finish of persistent length.

Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with slow-braised red meats, noble game or richly flavoured regional dishes. Characterful, well-aged cheeses, such as an aged Pélardon or a Beaufort, will also enhance this wine beautifully.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Côte-Rôtie "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16°C, decanting it two hours before tasting. This wine is built for long ageing and can be enjoyed until around 2051.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%. Bottled without fining or filtration, it retains its full authenticity and may show a slight natural sediment.

The Authentic Expression of Old Vines from the Rhône Valley by Tardieu Laurent

The estate

Founded in 1996 by Michel Tardieu, the House of Tardieu Laurent is based in Lourmarin, in Provence. This micro négociant-éleveur of the Rhône Valley stands out for its singular model: it owns no vineyards of its own, but rigorously selects grapes from very old vines. Today, Michel Tardieu still leads the estate, supported by his children Bastien and Camille. The house is renowned for its minimal-intervention approach, favouring the pure expression of terroirs and lasting relationships with its partner winegrowers.

The vineyard

The grapes for this Côte-Rôtie come exclusively from the Côte-Brune, on the right bank of the river. The vines, over 60 years old, thrive on steep slopes with gradients that can exceed 60%, at altitudes ranging from 180 to 330 metres. The terroir consists of weathered mica-schist, rich in quartz, black biotite and muscovite, offering optimal sun exposure. The selected plots are among the most renowned lieux-dits, such as Landonne, Lancement, Chavaroche and les Rochains.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by complex climatic conditions that led to low yields, yet revealed very promising quality potential. The harvest period, marked by cool and windy weather, produced berries with lovely tension and a remarkable balance between freshness and ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing

The making of the Côte-Rôtie "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 favours minimal intervention. The harvest is kept as whole clusters, with no destemming. Ageing begins with twelve months in oak barrels from Tronçais and Allier, followed by a further twelve months of refinement in large Stockinger foudres. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.
