Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Taylor's Vintage Port 2016

Tasting

Appearance
Deep black-purple hue with a narrow magenta rim, reflecting the exceptional concentration of this vintage.

Nose
Intense aromas of wild berries, green apple and fresh plum, accompanied by raspberry notes. Added to that are nuances of gumcistus, wild herbs, cedar wood and jasmine, creating a bouquet of great complexity.

Palate
Svelte structure with superbly integrated linear tannins. The racy acidity supports intense berry flavors, leading to a long finish of exceptional quality.

Pairings and Tasting Occasions

This vintage Port pairs perfectly with nuts, blue-veined cheeses and richly flavored cheeses. Dried fruits such as apricots and figs also make excellent accompaniments. Serve at a temperature of 16 °C to 18 °C after decanting. Best enjoyed within 1 to 2 days of opening.

The Tannic Framework and Refinement of an Exceptional Vintage Port

Taylor's, Three Centuries of Excellence in the Douro

Founded in 1692, Taylor's remains one of the oldest and most prestigious Porto houses, located in the Douro region of Portugal. This independent family estate is dedicated exclusively to producing Porto using traditional methods, employing terraced vineyards on the steep slopes of the Duriense. Owned by the Fladgate Partnership family, Taylor's stands out for its historic Quintas (Vargellas, Terra Feita) and its oak barrel aging techniques. The house produces exceptional vintage cuvées and tawny Portos aged up to 50 years, embodying the excellence and authenticity of traditional Portuguese Porto.

Vintage Port 2016, a Vintage of Exceptional Purity

Taylor's Vintage Port 2016 originates from a particularly distinctive growing season marked by an unusually wet and cool spring followed by a hot, dry summer. This climatic alternation allowed for gradual and even grape ripening. Harvesting began on September 17 at the Quinta de Vargellas, then on September 23 and 26 in the estates of the Pinhão valley. This patience in waiting for perfect conditions was rewarded by cool nights that enabled extended fermentation and gentle extraction.

This vintage is defined by its key attributes: purity, refinement, structure, elegance and balance. Relatively low yields contributed to a limited allocation of this exceptional cuvée. The style of this Porto perfectly reflects Taylor's emblematic characteristics: restrained vigor and endurance, in a perfect balance between power and finesse.
