Jancis Robinson

Alistair Cooper MW

80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah. The grapes were co-fermented. Aged 25% in new French oak (medium toast), 25% in demi-muids and 50% in concrete tanks. Tasted blind. Very vibrant nose – blue fruits and cassis, leather, lavender and rosemary. A ripe palate, rich and opulent. Soft, rounded tannins with low acidity. There is lots of fruit present and warming alcohol on the finish. A very ripe style. (AC)

Wine Enthusiast

Anna-Christina Cabrales

This wine opens with an irresistible burst of brambly black fruit—like a jar of wild berry leather steeped in summer heat. It's juicy, inviting, and downright mouthwatering. The palate follows through with waves of fresh black raspberry and dark cherry, accented by a pinch of flaky salt that adds edge and intrigue. While there's a whisper of earthy depth beneath, the spotlight stays on the pure, fruit-driven exuberance. Bold yet playful, this wine is a perfect match for richly marbled cuts like Kobe or Wagyu.

Description

The finesse and expression of a red wine from the Rhône Valley

The estate

Renowned oenologist, Xavier Vignon has made a name for himself on the international wine scene by assisting more than 200 estates, particularly in the creation of grand crus from the Rhône Valley, including those from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In 2002, he embarked on a personal adventure by signing his own cuvées under the name "Xavier", resulting from a meticulous selection of the best juices from carefully chosen parcels. Freed from the constraints related to terroirs and grape varieties, Xavier Vignon gives birth to a wine that resembles him: modern, accessible and with an exceptional quality-price ratio.

The wine

This cuvée of Rasteau, signed Xavier Vignon, comes from 17 carefully selected parcels, spread over a mosaic of rich and varied soils: pebbles, clays, sands.

Vinification and aging

A pre-fermentation maceration at moderate temperature allows a gentle extraction of the tannins. The co-fermentation of the grape varieties brings a remarkable aromatic complexity. The aging is divided between concrete vats (50%), new oak barrels (25%) and demi-muids (25%), ensuring a balance between freshness, structure and woody expression.

Blend

This Rasteau 2021 from Xavier Vignon is the result of a blend of grenache, mourvèdre and syrah.
