The estate
Established in 1720 in Beaune by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, the Champy House is the oldest Burgundy wine merchant and élevage house. Part of the AdVini group since 2016, it farms 21 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, it is now certified 50% organic and 50% Haute Valeur Environnementale. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label in 2021, Champy combines centuries-old tradition with a contemporary approach, remaining the only active production site within Beaune’s historic old town.
The vineyard
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Ile des Vergelesses" comes from parcels located in the commune of Pernand-Vergelesses, at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard lies between 250 and 350 meters in altitude across very hilly terrain. The vines take root in clay-limestone marls, which give the wine its distinctive mineral structure.
The vintage
The winter of 2022 in Bourgogne was milder and drier than average. The first green tips appeared as early as the beginning of April. The first half of September benefited from favorable weather conditions, bringing generosity and quality to the harvested grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Ile des Vergelesses" 2022 grapes were harvested by hand. Cold maceration preceded spontaneous alcoholic fermentation carried out with indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasted for around three weeks. Aging took place over 14 months in eight barrels, 25% of which were new oak.
Grape variety
100% pinot noir
