Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2023 from Domaine des Lambrays
Tasting
Colour
This wine exhibits a dark ruby red colour, testifying to its concentration and beautiful ripeness.
Nose
The bouquet reveals a remarkable aromatic intensity, dominated more by black than red fruits. Pronounced spices are accompanied by notes of brewed black tea, subtle undergrowth and tobacco, which develop gradually.
Palate
The attack is delicate in this medium-bodied wine. The palate expresses a spicy and peppery character with a beautiful roundness. A hint of fresh chocolate appears in the background, while the harmonious integration of the stems fades in the finish to make way for the full majesty of this exceptional terroir.
Serving and storage
Open the bottle 3 hours before serving, without decanting, and do not replace the cork. Serve at a temperature of 16-17°C. The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2023 can be enjoyed until around 2040.
A full-bodied Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru of great finesse
The estate
Domaine des Lambrays was founded in 1868 by Albert-Sébastien Rodier in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014 and managed by Jacques Devauges, this 8.70-hectare estate represents the largest monopole Clos in Burgundy. Its history dates back to 1365 and annual production is between 3,000 and 4,000 cases.
The vineyard
The La Richemone Climat covers a total of 1.97 hectares, of which Domaine des Lambrays owns 0.8879 hectares. This plot is located on the northern slope of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, towards Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard consists of 25% vines planted in 1924, with the remainder being at least 40 years old, all from a "massal selection" of fine Pinots.
The vintage
Bud break took place on April 7, 2023, three days earlier than average. Flowering around June 7 took place under particularly favourable conditions, followed by a rainy period that favoured fruit set. The hot summer in July and August, punctuated by regular rainfall, allowed for good berry development and optimal ripeness. A significant green harvest at the end of July made it possible to control yields.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" 2023 were harvested on September 12 in bright sunshine with a yield of 35 hl/ha. Alcoholic fermentation took place over three weeks in wooden vats with 50% whole bunches and indigenous yeasts, with all movements carried out exclusively by gravity. The 16-month ageing process took place in French oak barrels with 40% new wood.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic Burgundian grape variety, from a "massal selection" of fine Pinots.
