An Exceptional Grenache from Côtes du Vivarais in the Rhône Valley
The Estate
Acquired in 1974 by the Gallety family in Saint-Montan in Ardèche, Domaine Gallety now spans 15 hectares in a single contiguous plot in the southern Rhône Valley. Alain Gallety, founder of the estate, carried out his first harvest in 1978 after restructuring the operation through a meticulous selection of grape varieties. Today, his son David-Alexandre Gallety has been working alongside him for more than 30 years to continue this family adventure. A pioneer of certified organic farming for over three decades, the estate is considered the Rhône vineyard’s best-kept secret and practically “the estate” of the Côtes du Vivarais appellation.
The Vineyard
Clos Latin comes from a parcel selection within the 15-hectare vineyard located in Saint-Montan, in the Côtes du Vivarais appellation recognized in 1999. The soils are composed of clay, limestone, rounded pebbles, and alluvial deposits. The estate has practiced organic farming for more than 30 years and carries out hand harvesting with meticulous sorting of the grapes in the vineyard. Yields are particularly low, around 15 to 25 hectoliters per hectare depending on the cuvées.
Vinification and Aging
Clos Latin 2017 is vinified in concrete tanks, then aged for 42 months in oak barrels. This prolonged aging approach characterizes the estate’s prestige cuvées. For red wines, the traditional work includes manual punch-downs followed by aging in oak barrels.
