The elegance of a Rhône Valley red wine by Gallety
The estate
Founded in 1974 in Saint-Montan in Ardèche, Domaine Gallety now spans fifteen hectares of vines within an 80-hectare property. For more than thirty years, Alain Gallety and his son David-Alexandre have run this family estate of the Rhône Valley together. Pioneers of organic and biodynamic farming practiced for over twenty years, they stand out for their environmental commitment and their pursuit of excellence. The estate has established itself as a benchmark for the Côtes du Vivarais appellation, producing elegant wines that combine measured power with masterful finesse.
The vineyard
The La Ligure cuvée comes from exceptional plots planted with vines averaging 85 years of age. These old vines are rooted in clay-limestone soils enriched with volcanic rocks, benefiting from an optimal south to south-east exposure. Located within the Côtes du Vivarais appellation, these plots lie in a preserved environment where biodiversity is respected. The estate practices certified organic and biodynamic viticulture, with yields deliberately limited to around eight hectoliters per hectare for this cuvée. Harvesting is exclusively by hand, allowing for rigorous selection of the finest bunches.
Vinification and aging
After a selective hand harvest, the La Ligure 2017 grapes undergo an exceptionally long maceration of around forty to fifty days. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine then benefits from a particularly generous aging period of 36 to 40 months in French oak barrels. This extended maturation allows for harmonious tannin integration and the development of remarkable aromatic complexity. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, thus preserving all of its authenticity and richness.
