The estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Louis Latour represents the largest Grand Cru estate in Burgundy's Côte d'Or with around 28.63 hectares. Managed by the eleventh generation of the family, this independent house owns vineyards in the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer of modern winemaking methods since the 19th century, the estate combines tradition and modernity in its historic cellars in Beaune.
The vineyard
Clos du Roi covers a small 13-hectare plot located in the north of the Beaune appellation. This historic terroir, once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and later the French Crown, benefits from a south/south-east exposure on clay-limestone soils. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are managed traditionally, with controlled yields of 40 hl/ha and manual harvesting.
Winemaking and aging
Vinification is traditional in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in medium-toasted French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, 35% of which are new.
