The elegance and liveliness of a Sancerre white wine from flinty terroir

The estate

Established in 2017, the Matthias Planchon estate spans 5 hectares of family vines in Sancerre, in the Loire Valley. Matthias Planchon, a young winemaker trained alongside Alphonse Mellot and Geantet-Pansiot, continues a family winegrowing history dating back to 1573. Farmed biodynamically, the vineyard expresses two emblematic terroirs: flint and limestone. The estate’s cuvées stand out for their sincerity and authenticity.

The vineyard

The named plot Les Herses covers 0.98 hectares of Loire Valley soils made up of flint, known locally as Perruches. The Sauvignon Blanc vines, averaging 45 years old, benefit from a favorable south-east exposure and are farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, respecting solar and lunar cycles.

Vinification and aging

The grapes for Les Herses 2022 are harvested by hand before being pressed using sequential pneumatic pressing. The must undergoes static settling at under 10°C for 48 to 72 hours. Fermentation takes place in 600-liter demi-muids. This Sancerre wine is then aged for one year on fine lees in barrels, followed by an additional year in stainless-steel tanks. Bottling is carried out at the estate following the lunar calendar.

Grape variety

100% Sauvignon Blanc.
