The estate

Matthias Planchon represents the new generation of winemakers from Sancerre. At 31, this young winemaker from an old family farms 5 hectares of family-owned vineyards along the Loire, in biodynamics certified by Demeter and Biodyvin. After working with Alphonse Mellot between 2014 and 2018, he established his own estate, combining high standards with respect for lunar cycles, and revealing the mineral expression of Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre.

The vineyard

The single-vineyard site La Lampe stretches over a 0.50-hectare parcel with an east-facing aspect. The vines, averaging 55 years old, are planted on a flint-clay terroir with a vein of tuff in the subsoil. This vineyard in Sancerre is farmed organically and biodynamically, with respect for solar and lunar cycles.

Winemaking and aging

The harvest is carried out by hand. The grapes are pressed using sequential pneumatic pressing, followed by static settling of the must at under 10 °C for 48 to 72 hours. Fermentation takes place in 600-liter demi-muids. The wine is then aged for one year on fine lees before being racked into stainless-steel tanks for a further year of aging. Bottling is carried out at the estate according to the lunar calendar.

Grape variety

This white wine from the Loire is 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
