An Italian Barolo with a vibrant, elegant character
The estate
Founded in 1982 by Mauro Molino in Piedmont, the estate spans the winegrowing areas of La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Guarene, Farigliano and Costigliole d'Asti. Mauro, a graduate of the Alba School of Oenology in 1973, took over the family vineyards after the death of his father Giovanni in 1979. Today, his children Matteo and Martina carry on the family’s excellence. The estate mainly cultivates Nebbiolo using sustainable practices, favoring organic fertilization and natural ground cover.
The vineyard
This Barolo comes from a vineyard on the higher slopes of La Morra and benefits from a microclimate tempered by the surrounding hills. The 20- to 35-year-old Nebbiolo vines are planted on limestone-, clay- and sand-rich soils. The south and southeast exposure promotes optimal ripening of the grapes.
Vinification and ageing
The harvest takes place in mid-October, picked by hand into small baskets to preserve the integrity of the berries. La Serra 2020 is vinified with a 14-day maceration. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Ageing lasts 18 to 20 months in small French oak barriques, followed by bottle ageing of at least one year before release.
Grape variety
This red wine from Piedmont is 100% Nebbiolo.
