The 2016 Cuvee Caroline reveals honeyed peaches, spiced pears and fresh lemon slices with a waft of fresh ginger. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with stone fruit and spicy layers plus a racy backbone and great length.

    Decanter

Equal amounts of vibrancy and depth in this elegant blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon – aged nine months in oak (50% new) on the lees with frequent batonnage – that retains freshness while showing nutty maturity. The fleshy core of yellow apple and Asian pear rests weightily on the mid-palate, with a glaze of lemon and honey – all topped with lime zest and toasted almonds. Outstanding value for a mature, polished white Bordeaux, drinking perfectly now and punching well above its weight.

Beautiful, flinty and smoky nose with lovely lemon character. Bold and vibrant with a lot of mineral freshness and a racy drive on the finish. Great with seafood! Drink or hold. A blend of 50 percent semillon and 50 percent sauvignon blanc.

Juicy, crisp, yellow, citrus fruits, vanilla and apples, paired with refreshing acidity and a strong, grapefruit-oriented finish.

    Bettane+Desseauve

Lovely aromas of honey, very ripe white fruits, honeysuckle and vanilla oak; a warm, fleshy palate with notes of citrus, anise, menthol, and lively freshness on the finish. Powerful and elegant at the same time.

    Le Figaro Vin

Smoky, toasty nose with ripe yellow fruits and spice. Broad palate with subtle bitterness, very long, more balanced.

Yellow with green highlights. The nose of Cuvée Caroline makes it clear from the outset that it has many stories to tell. It is youthful, racy, complex and full of character. The wine confirms its authenticity and personality with a saline yet fruity attack. The palate shows a beautiful aromatic expression where fruit and minerality coexist perfectly. What a great success! Even though this wine has good ageing potential, given its structure, I think it won’t last long in the cellars of passionate enthusiasts, as it is so good right now… Kudos to the Chantegrive team!

Pale colour. Fruity nose with fine toasty notes. The palate is particularly pleasant, with good substance, developing into an aromatic, rich profile that remains lively, with good length.

    Description

A complex, fresh and fruity white wine from Graves

Produced in the Graves appellation on a vineyard with a total area of 15 hectares, the "Caroline" cuvée of Château de Chantegrive benefits from vines aged 30 years on average, with southern exposure, and planted in a sandy soil mixed with gravel and pebbles. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (of which 50% are new wood) on fine lees, for an average of 9 months and with regular stirring. The 2016 vintage contains a blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Sémillon.

This 2016 vintage is marked by temperature conditions identical to that of 2015. Winter and spring (from January to June) were very rainy, setting up extremely dry climatic conditions for the summer. The harvest took place over three weeks in order to perfectly manage the ripeness of the grapes.

At tasting, the Château de Chantegrive "Caroline" 2016 offers a great complexity in its aromas. The wine is crisp, intensely fresh and incredibly fruity.
