    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Advice for Château de Pez 2024

    Tasting

    Nose
The bouquet unveils a floral and fruity aromatic palette, with delicate notes of red rose, peony and hawthorn, accompanied by nuances of blood orange that bring a zesty freshness.

    Palate
On the palate, the expression of ripe Cabernet Sauvignon reveals itself with elegance, supported by a characteristic minerality evoking wet rock. Spices gradually emerge with hints of black pepper, licorice and nutmeg that give the wine complexity and depth.

A floral and minerally expressive Saint-Estèphe wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1452, the Château de Pez remains the oldest estate in Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux. Owned by the Louis Roederer group since 1995, the domaine draws its strength from exceptional gravel soils over clay-limestone subsoils and an oceanic microclimate, establishing itself as a Médoc benchmark.

    The Vineyard

The vineyard of Château de Pez covers 42 hectares, 39 of which are in production in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The vines average 25 years of age. The estate practices sustainable viticulture integrating biodynamic methods, respectful of this privileged environment.

    The Vintage

The 2024 vintage was marked by an exceptionally rainy winter and spring with cool temperatures. Budbreak was late at the end of March, followed by a slowed vegetative cycle from flowering in early June to véraison in mid-August. Despite climatic challenges including shatter, millerandage and downy mildew pressure, the dry and sunny summer from mid-July to the end of August allowed for optimal ripening. Harvesting took place from September 24 to October 8 under favorable conditions.

    Winemaking and Aging

The harvested grapes undergo parcel-by-parcel vinification in wooden vats and thermoregulated stainless-steel tronconic tanks. Aging lasts 18 months in barrels (50% new).

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (69%)
    Merlot (24%)
    Petit Verdot (5%)
    Cabernet Franc (2%).
