Description

A Pomerol red wine harmoniously freshness and aromatic richness

The estate

Located in the heart of Libourne, Château Mazeyres is an emblematic estate in the Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The estate has ancient origins, dating back to Roman times. Alain Moueix has led Château Mazeyres with talent and passion since 1992, contributing his winegrowing expertise and know-how.

The vineyard

Château Mazeyres 2022 is a Pomerol wine produced from a 23.30-hectare vineyard located in the heart of the appellation, on the western and southern terraces, with 3 different types of terroir present. These include fine clayey gravel, clayey sand and gravelly sandy clay. The particularity of these soils gives Château Mazeyres wines a unique personality and a characteristic velvety mouthfeel. The vines have been cultivated biodynamically since 2012, and obtained Biodyvin certification from Ecocert in 2018.

The vintage

Starting with cool conditions, the month of January became milder in February and March, advancing ing an early budburst. The frost at the end of March had a moderate impact on the vineyard. Flowering was rapid and uniform despite high temperatures from May onwards, which resulted in small berries. The summer was marked by a severe drought. The early harvest began on September 1st, a month in which the cool nights were ideal for preserving the freshness and fruity character of the grapes. Despite low yields, the grapes were wonderfully rich, balanced and acidic with smooth tannins.

Winemaking and ageing

30% of the wine is aged in barrels (27.5% of which are new), 20% in 7 hl ovoid concrete vats, 20% in amphorae and small vats and 30% in tuns.

Blend

Château Mazeyres 2022 is a blend of Merlot (78%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Petit Verdot (4%).
