The smoothness and elegance of a Moulis red wine

    The estate

In 2008, the Cuvelier family, already owners of Clos Fourtet, a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, acquired Château Poujeaux. Since then, the beautiful Médoc property has undergone a real renaissance. Managed by Mathieu Cuvelier and Christophe Labenne, with vinification carried out under the guidance of oenologist-consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, Château Poujeaux is one of the finest references in the Moulis appellation, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

    The vineyard

Château Poujeaux is a Moulis wine from a 72 hectare single vineyard located in the north-east of the appellation. The vines are on average 30 years old and benefit from an exceptional location on the Graves Günziennes slopes. This great terroir perfectly benefits the Médoc grape varieties. This combination of terroir and grape variety gives rise to the great wines typical of the Moulis appellation, with their density and elegance.

    The vintage

A cool winter gave way to a spring that began under mild and humid conditions. The frost episodes had little impact on the vineyard and preceded a particularly hot and dry climate. The rainfall in June was ideal to help the vines withstand a particularly hot and dry summer. The grapes ripened early and were of a high quality.

    Winemaking and ageing

Fermentation of the grapes whole in temperature-controlled stainless steel, wood and concrete vats. Extraction by pumping over. Vatting for 20 to 25 days. Ageing for 12 months in barrels (33% new and 67% one and two wines).

    Cabernet Sauvignon (55%)
    Merlot (42%)
    Petit Verdot (3%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Poujeaux 2022

The wine is of a beautiful garnet colour, adorned with purple highlights.

The nose releases intense fruity (blackcurrant), floral (violet) and flint and cigar box fragrances.

A supple and velvety attack gives way to a palate with fine and silky tannins which dlights with its lovely richness and ideal balance between freshness, minerality and elegant notes of black fruit.
