A Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux wine that delights with its balance and aromatic expression

The estate

"The Cru de Puy Arnaud produces one of the most sought-after wines in the region" - so said the 1898 entry in the Guide Féret, the Bordeaux wines reference since 1868.

A member of the board of Château Pavie since 1979, Thierry Valette acquired Clos Puy Arnaud in 2000. Since 2005, the vineyard has been managed using organic (AB) and biodynamic (Demeter and Biodyvin) methods, resulting in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux wines renowned for their elegance.

Clos Puy Arnaud oversees a 15-hectare vineyard as well as 3 hectares of leased land in the Libourne region, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. While the three main grape varieties grown are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, a massal selection including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Mancin, Sastets and Sauvignon Blanc is being tested.

The vineyard

Clos Puy Arnaud is a Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux wine developed from vines on average 30 years old.

Winemaking and ageing

Whole grapes vatted by gravity into wooden and cement vats. Pre-fermentation maceration under inert gas before natural fermentation at a low temperature. The wine was aged for 8 months in barrels (10% of which were new), demi-muids and jars. Then blending for 5 months in uncoated cement vats.

Blend

Ce Clos Puy Arnaud 2020 is the result of a blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
