The Delicacy and Richness of a Spanish Wine from Bierzo

    The Estate
Descendientes de José Palacios is an estate founded in 1999 in the D.O. Bierzo. The vineyard spans approximately 35 to 40 hectares, divided into 200 to 220 plots located around Corullón on slate and schist slopes reaching up to 700 meters above sea level. The current owners are Ricardo Pérez Palacios and Álvaro Palacios. The estate, named after Álvaro’s father and Ricardo’s grandfather who passed away in 2000, is distinguished by its old mencía vines, biodynamic-inspired viticulture, meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach, and careful aging that reveal the mineral finesse of its terroirs.

    The Vineyard
The Moncerbal comes from an exceptional paraje located in Corullón in the D.O. Bierzo. This 2.1-hectare vineyard extends across very steep Castille-León slopes facing southwest, between 610 and 730 meters above sea level. The Lower Cambrian Paleozoic soils consist of thick oblique layers of slate, quartzite, sandstone, and marble, with veins of marbled dolomites. This geological structure offers high porosity, allowing roots to delve into the deep subsoil. The 70- to 100-year-old vines are bush-trained according to traditional Bierzo methods, cultivated biodynamically, and plowed by mules.

    Grape Varieties
The blend of this Bierzo wine consists of 95.5% mencía complemented by 4.5% white grape varieties (jerez and valenciana).
