The property
Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are the third generation at the head of the family estate created in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois. Covering an area of 72 hectares, the vineyard of Domaine Henri Bourgeois extends over a mosaic of terroirs composed of clay-limestone soils, Kimmeridgian marls or even flint, which contribute to the signature of each of these Loire wines. Through the passion and rigor brought, both to the management of the vineyard and to the parcel vinification, of which it was one of the pioneers, the Bourgeois Family produces wines recognized for their quality, their finesse and their precision.
The wine
Exceptional Sancerre, formerly named "La Bourgeoise", the famous cuvée is now renamed " ES-56" taking the initials of " Eocene Flint 56 million years" to pay tribute to their exceptional terroir.
The vineyard
This wine from Sancerre is made from old vines planted on flint hillsides originally exploited by the monks of St-Satur. Renowned, this terroir gives this cuvée an exceptional minerality and persistence on the palate. This plot in organic conversion is cultivated with respect for the environment and biodiversity, through inter-row grassing, the use of organic fertilizers only, a rigorous limitation of inputs as well as yields.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks and in oak barrels from the Tronçais forest. This white Sancerre wine benefits from aging on fine lees for 12 months, with regular stirring. The aging then continues in bottle, for several months in the property's cellars.
