Description
A fleshy and refined Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine
The estate
The Château Tertre Roteboeuf is a 6-hectare family estate located in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Managed since the late 1970s by François Mitjavile, progressively joined by his children Louis and Nina, this Bordeaux estate practices unconventional viticulture. The south-facing amphitheater-shaped vineyard benefits from meticulous work requiring one worker per hectare. Despite the absence of a grand cru classé classification, Tertre Roteboeuf enjoys the status of an internationally recognized wine.
The vineyard
The Château Tertre Roteboeuf vineyard is ideally exposed in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Arranged in a south-facing amphitheater, it benefits from exceptional exposure promoting optimal ripening of the grapes. This particular configuration of the terroir allows the estate to produce wines of great concentration and remarkable finesse.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage proved to be one of the most difficult of the past twenty years in Bordeaux. Flowering took place under complicated conditions, resulting in a very low harvest and a delay of two to three weeks. Maturation occurred in hot and sunny weather, but significant stormy precipitation prolonged growth and maturation. The three weeks preceding the harvest were marked by heavy rains. The harvest, carried out late on October 15, nevertheless made it possible to harvest healthy grapes. These particular conditions gave birth to a wine with a fleshy and refined character, endowed with fresh fruit and autumnal flavors.
Grape varieties
The Château Tertre Roteboeuf 2013 is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
