    Description

A great wine from Spain with impressive elegance and harmony

    The estate

A family bodega created in 1932, Muga is, today, one of the most iconic wine producers in the La Rioja wine region, in the north of Spain. With a respect for traditions, the working methods of yesteryear, clarifying the crus using fresh egg whites, the use of noble materials: since its inception, Bodega Muga has paid careful attention to producing great wines which reflect all of the typicality and authenticity of their terroir.

    The vineyard

Torre Muga 2016 is a Rioja wine produced from very beautiful terroirs in La Rioja Alta, a region located in the north of Spain. Not far from Haro, the Muga family’s various vineyards are rooted upon exceptional soils thanks to the combination of Mediterranean and continental climates. The Atlantic influence subjects the areas to significant temperature variations between day and night, fostering phenolic concentration and acidity in the berries. The soil from which this cru is issued is rich in the influence of clay, limestone and alluvium.

    Winemaking and ageing

After the harvests, the grapes are taken to the cellar to begin a greatly precise winemaking process. The fermentation begins in a spontaneous and natural manner. The grapes ferment in wooden barrels, with the use of native yeasts and without temperature control. The maceration time is variable – it can last up to two or three weeks. Finally, the wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels from the region of Allier. After this ageing phase, the wine is lightly fined using fresh egg whites.

    Tasting

    Colour
Torre Muga 2016 is a wine with pretty purple shades at the edges, indicative of its youth. Its density is recognisable to the eye and reveals an impressive elegance.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet harmonises aromas of perfectly ripe black fruits with spicy notes of black pepper and aromatic herbs. Touches of balsamic follow, accompanied by rosemary and smoky notes. On the whole, the nose has an unparalleled balance and harmony.

    Palate
Juicy and elegant, the palate delights with the finesse of its tannins, its balance, its vivacity and its licorice and pepper scents.
