Situated in the northern Basilicata region of Italy, the 6-hectare Elena Fucci vineyard lies at the foot of Mount Vultur. Acquired by Elena’s grandfather in 1960, the vineyard was originally used for personal production until the decision was made to commercialise. Elena Fucci, while still studying oenology, decided to take over the vineyard, with the aim to reveal through her wines the essence of the region’s old vines. Thus, in 2000, the Elena Fucci estate was born.
Perched at an altitude of 600 metres in soils formed by lava and ash flow from Mont Vultur, the vines stretch their roots deep into volcanic soils, rich in minerals. The 70-year-old Aglianico vines are quite pampered here, experiencing an ideal microclimate, which allows them to reveal their full potential.
Elena Fucci is motivated by the desire to express the pure fruit flavours of the Aglianico variety. And to do this, she cares very closely for the vine. Elena has studied the vines closely in order to fully understand their needs and to determine which method of viticulture would least alter the signature characteristics of this grape variety, native to Italy.
The current cellar is dug out on the family’s "Torre Titolo" property. The winemaking takes place in underground volcanic rock caves. As is traditional in the region, the wine is fermented at temperatures between 22 and 24 ° C. It is then aged in new oak barrels for a year and bottled for twelve months before release.
Elena Fucci only produces one red wine under the DOC Aglianico del Vulture appellation, her Titolo. Intense ruby in colour, this is a wine that reveals all the true characteristics of Aglianico. Fruity, complex, and vinous, the Titolo is truly a wine with character.
