The estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, a fabric merchant, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the largest estates in Burgundy, with 130 hectares spread across the Côte d'Or, including 12 hectares in Grand Cru and 74 hectares in Premier Cru. Owned by Artémis Domaines (Pinault-Henriot family) since 2022, the estate underwent a major restructuring in 2024 with the creation of Domaine des Cabottes and the overhaul of Bouchard Père & Fils. Led by Frédéric Engerer and Jean-Marc Pistre, the estate is abandoning its négociant activity to focus exclusively on its own vines, entering biodynamic conversion starting in 2026, with organic certification obtained in 2025.
The vineyard
Clos de la Rougeotte is a monopole of Bouchard Père & Fils located within the climat Les Frémiets in Volnay. This exclusive parcel benefits from a southeast exposure and sits on clay-limestone soils with a stony subsoil. This particular geological composition gives the wines remarkable finesse and a distinctive aromatic complexity.
