The estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is among Burgundy’s oldest wine houses. The estate spans 130 hectares across more than 450 plots in the Côte d'Or, including 12 hectares of Grand Crus and 74 hectares of Premier Crus. Acquired by Artémis Domaines of François Pinault in October 2022, it is led by Frédéric Engerer and Jean-Marc Pistre. The estate stands out for its historic monopoles, including the Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus in Beaune, as well as its plots in Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. Since 2025, the entire vineyard has been certified organic.
The vineyard
Clos de la Rougeotte is one of the four emblematic monopoles of Bouchard Père & Fils. This 0.45-hectare plot lies at the junction of the village of Volnay and the Frémiets climat, benefiting from an ideal south-east exposure. The terroir rests on clay-limestone soils over a marl base, giving the wines finesse, body, and minerality. This distinctive geological composition allows Pinot Noir to express all its elegance.
The vintage
The 2017 vintage in Burgundy is characterized by beautiful fruit ripeness. The year’s weather conditions made it possible to obtain perfectly balanced grapes, giving the wines a silky, harmonious structure.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Volnay 1er cru "Frémiets Clos de la Rougeotte" Domaine Monopole 2017 were harvested by hand and sorted bunch by bunch. After total or partial destemming depending on the needs of the vintage, fermentation took place in small vessels. Maceration lasted fifteen to twenty days. Aging lasted twelve to fourteen months in French oak barrels, 30% to 40% of which were new. This maturation took place in the historic cellars of the Bastions of the former Château de Beaune.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
