Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Millésime Extra Brut 2019 from Leclerc Briant

Tasting

Color
The color shows a pale yellow-gold hue with bright straw-yellow highlights, enlivened by a stream of fine, lively bubbles that give the whole a luminous and fluid appearance.

Nose
The bouquet is open and complex, combining a pronounced minerality of wet chalk with maritime hints as well as beguiling and fruity notes. Aromas of quince, lemon, fresh pear, honeysuckle and fresh lemongrass can be detected, complemented by nuances of roasted hazelnuts, jasmine blossom, crushed stone and toast.

Palate
The attack is characterized by a light but very energetic effervescence, offering intense flavor concentration while maintaining an airy texture. The clear acidity of citrus fruits energizes the whole and brings remarkable freshness. The structure reveals a beautiful elegance, accompanied by a fruity and fleshy fullness. The finish is characterized by remarkable purity and great length, remaining smooth, with freshness supporting the fruity richness and leaving a dry and delicious substance.

Food and wine pairings

This Champagne is particularly suitable as an aperitif. It also elegantly accompanies white meats.

Freshness and fruit: A vintage Champagne

The estate

Founded in Cumières in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, the Leclerc Briant House moved to Épernay in 1955 at the instigation of Bertrand Leclerc and Jacqueline Briant. A pioneer in organic farming as early as the 1950s and biodynamics in the 1980s, it received Demeter certification. Since 2012, Denise Dupré and Mark Nunnelly have managed this Champagne estate with 14 hectares, distributed across Premier and Grand Cru terroirs and embodying ecological excellence.

The vintage

The year 2019 is considered one of the best vintages of the last decades in Champagne. This year benefited from ideal climatic conditions with cool nights and sunny days, creating an optimal thermal contrast. This phenomenon preserved excellent acidity in the grapes and guaranteed the balance as well as the freshness required for the production of exceptional wines.

Grape varieties

This blend comprises 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay.
