The estate

Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, Champy is Burgundy’s oldest négociant House. Based in Beaune, it owns 21 hectares of vines on the Côte de Beaune, from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Pierre Meurgey has led this three-century-old House since 1990, supported by Dimitri Bazas, technical director and oenologist. It stands out for its connection to Louis Pasteur, who conducted his research there in 1865, and for its 15th-century cellars. The only active wine production site in the heart of Beaune, Champy farms 50% of its vineyard organically.

The vineyard

Charmes-Chambertin extends over 29 hectares within the 85.5 hectares of grand crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits. The vines benefit from an east-facing exposure, planted between 240 and 280 meters above sea level. The terroir is made up of limestone enriched by a fine proportion of clay marls, giving the wine that distinctive combination of power and roundness that characterizes the appellation.
