Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Les Intemporels II 1988-1989-1990 Case from Château Angelus
Tasting
1988
After a wet winter and spring, a very dry September encouraged berry concentration, with particularly thick grape skins. The result is wines of deep color, combining pedigree and finesse. The tannic structure is remarkable—precise and beautifully built.
1989
An extremely early vintage of exceptional richness and ripeness, with harvesting carried out more than three weeks ahead of schedule. The wines display an intense color and a highly expressive nose marked by notes of spice, tobacco, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is opulent and rich, combining power and balance.
1990
A splendid September made it possible to harvest each plot at perfect ripeness. The grapes, highly concentrated in sugars and phenolic compounds, produce opulent and exuberant wines. The nose combines blackberry, blackcurrant, and smoky notes. On the palate, it is rich, broad, and generous, with a long, harmonious finish.
An exceptional set showcasing three great vintages from Château Angélus
The estate
Founded in 1782, the Château Angélus is an emblematic Bordeaux estate located in Saint-Émilion. Spanning 32 hectares, it has been run by the de Boüard family for 8 generations. The vineyard, planted mainly to Cabernet Franc and Merlot, benefits from a unique clay-limestone terroir on the southern slope of Saint-Émilion. The name “Angélus” comes from the bells of the neighboring churches, symbolizing the estate’s heritage and identity.
The vineyard
Located on the southern slope of Saint-Émilion, on the “pied de côte”, the Château Angélus vineyard thrives on a clay-limestone terroir that is particularly conducive to expressing Bordeaux grape varieties. The vines average 39 years of age.
The set
« Vintages follow one another, yet no two are alike. That is the magic of a great terroir in constant vitality, shaped by a capricious climate: each of these years writes the story of Angelus. »
True to this philosophy, the estate presents “Les Intemporels”, three sets bringing together three very rare bottles, beautifully matured, bearing witness to historic vintages that trace the evolution of this iconic Right Bank Bordeaux property.
This second opus, named « Les Intemporels II », brings together the 1988, 1989, and 1990 vintages. A highly refined vertical tasting to appreciate the influence of the climate from one year to the next.
