The 2012 Cornas Les Terres Brûlées is a soft, sexy and forward effort that offers plenty of truffle, wild herb, peppered meat and sweet, darker-styled fruit. It’s a hedonistic, well-made Cornas to drink over the coming decade.

James Molesworth

Packed with dark plum, blackberry and anise notes at the core, laced with bay, sweet tapenade and iron on the finish. This has heft and cut, energy and length. Should cellar well. Best from 2016 through 2022. 1,700 cases made.

Description

Jean-Luc Colombo is passionate about the Cornas appellation and its old Syrah vines that made his reputation. The terraced parcels overlooking the Rhone Valley benefit from the granite rich soil, facing the rising sun in the East. The 2012 Terre Brulee exhibits a bold black hue. The nose exudes red and black fruits aromas: cassis, blackberries, as well as hints of chocolate and mild spices. The rich, smooth palate offers tannins marked by youth, and a lovely persistent, warm finish.
