Tasting Tips for the Cuvée L'Oratoire des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2024
Tasting
Color
The color is a brilliant yellow, enhanced by graceful green highlights.
Nose
On the nose, notes of white fruits unfold alongside floral hints, vanilla, and toasted dried fruits.
Palate
With a fine interplay of creaminess, tension, and salty minerality, the palate charms with its length and richness.
Food Pairings
Firm-fleshed seafood (scallops, lobster) or a langoustine carpaccio with olive oil and aromatic herbs make particularly refined matches.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal tasting, serve at 10°C, decant for 30 minutes or, alternatively, open a few hours before serving. This cuvée can be cellared until around 2034.
A generous Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc with lovely balance
The Estate
Named in homage to the oratory below the first parcel, L’Oratoire des Papes has embodied the enduring bond between pleasure and prestige for nearly 150 years. With the purest yet contemporary expression of the four emblematic soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, these wines stand out for their elegance far beyond the region’s borders.
The Vineyard
The uniqueness of Châteauneuf-du-Pape lies in the richness and diversity of its soils, drawn from three distinct geological eras: limestone scree, rounded pebbles, safre, and red sandstones. Faithful to this mosaic, the estate embraces terroir-respectful farming with organic practices in the vineyard and low-intervention vinification in the cellar, in order to preserve the authenticity and personality of each site.
The Wine
The Clos de L’Oratoire des Papes Les Chorégies collection, available in red and white, comes from a selection of outstanding parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. From plots of old vines planted in the 1960s on rounded pebbles (for the red wines), these wines from the Rhône Valley reveal a concentration of elegance, tension, and generosity.
Vinification and Aging
The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed as whole bunches. Vinification takes place in 600-liter ceramic amphorae and in 300 L barriques. Aging in the same vessels for 6 months, followed by an additional year of maturation in bottle.
