Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

This has a seductive feel, with velvety plum and raspberry compote notes stretching from start to finish while light floral, anise and applewood accents chime in and out. Nice integration through the finish. Best from 2022 through 2032. 6,250 cases made.

Dense and rich second wine of Nenin with dark berries, chocolate and hazelnuts. Full-bodied, with round, chewy yet polished tannins and a finished feel. Needs two or three years to soften, at least. Try after 2023.

The 2016 Fugue de Nénin is pretty and lifted, with lovely aromatic presence from the 21% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Bright floral and savory notes lift the red berry fruit nicely in this mid-weight, attractive second wine from Nénin.

Medium-bodied, floral, fresh and filled with spicy cherries, this is great to drink now while waiting for its big brother to develop.

The second wine of the estate, the 2016 Fugue de Nenin is 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc that sees a slightly shorter time in oak. This elegant, medium-bodied, impressively balanced 2016 has a fleshy, forward style as well as classic damp earth, lead pencil, cedar, and tobacco aromas and flavors. It’s a delicious, easy-drinking wine that’s going to deliver ample pleasure over the coming decade.

(79% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 37 hl/ha, 13.9% vol. alcohol) Fresh, fragrant, sweet bouquet, raspberry, young wood, pepper. Light, silky palate with good fruit, fine tannins, sweet aromatics, a firm core, and a bitter finish. Can still improve. 16/20 2022 - 2030

Great charm on the nose with deep black fruit and floral delicacy; the tannins are seductive with lovely polish and a tasty freshness—a fine success. The higher proportion of Cabernet Franc gives the cru greater backbone.

The best ever made. This is the most precise vintage I know. It offers a fruit brightness above usual and a finish without tannic firmness. Blend: 79% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc.

Description

A seductive and refreshing second wine from Pomerol

Fugue de Nenin blends 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc. These grapes were harvested between September 23rd and October 13th, under excellent conditions due to a hot and dry summer with a beautiful Indian Summer following. The latter allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity.

The nose of this Pomerol offers an unparalleled charm. Fugue de Nenin 2016 is a wine bright with black fruit. This delicious second wine of château Nenin, it is chatty but without being excessive. On the palate it displays a great freshness in taste and is structured around creamy, well-rounded tannins, which are nevertheless delicately tactile. The Cabernet Franc gives this Pomerol a beautiful spine and a foundation that imposed over the latter. One can appreciate the length at the end of the palate and this fruity character, which persists throughout the nose all the way to the tasting. A great success!
