An exceptional Italian Vermentino from Sardinia, by Argiolas
The estate
Founded in 1938 in Sardinia, Argiolas stands out as the pioneer of quality Sardinian viticulture. Now led by Franco and Giuseppe, representing the family’s third generation, the estate farms 230 hectares of vineyards in the south of the island, around Serdiana. Its collaboration with the legendary oenologist Giacomo Tachis in the 1980s revolutionized local production. Showcasing exclusively indigenous Sardinian grape varieties, this Italian estate has earned international acclaim with its iconic cuvées Turriga and Korem.
The vineyard
This Vermentino di Sardegna comes from the namesake estate located in Selegas. The Vermentino vines thrive on clay-limestone soils with a limestone and clay structure, benefiting from a favorable texture and excellent sun exposure. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters, limited rainfall, and very hot, windy summers, gives the grapes their unique character.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand in the early morning hours. The production of Is Argiolas Vermentino 2025 begins with a meticulous selection of the bunches. Only the free-run juice is used after a very gentle pressing. The must is cooled between 10 and 12°C for natural settling. Fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature between 16 and 17°C for 25 to 30 days. This wine from Sardinia then ages on fine lees for 40 to 60 days in stainless steel tanks, thereby developing its aromatic complexity.
