Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Sercial Colheita Single Harvest 2010 Blandy's
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a brilliant golden colour, open and perfectly crystal-clear, with luminous highlights.
Nose
The nose is intense, dominated by aromas of candied citrus and citrus compote, lifted by touches of exotic spices reminiscent of saffron, over a backdrop of dry wood.
Palate
The attack is dry and very fresh, driven by a lovely citrus vivacity. The long finish reveals delicate notes of brandy and honey.
Food and wine pairings
This Sercial is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif. It also pairs beautifully with a Caesar salad, richly seasoned protein-based soups and onion soup.
Serving and cellaring
After a few years in bottle, the Sercial Colheita Single Harvest 2010 may develop a slight natural deposit, so it is advisable to decant it before serving. Store in a cool, dry place at a constant temperature, ideally below 16°C, away from light and in an upright position.
A dry, elegant Madeira bursting with citrus and spice, bearing the Blandy's signature
The estate
Founded in 1811 in Funchal by John Blandy, Blandy's is the only founding house of the Madeira wine trade still owned and run by its original family. From its base on Madeira, it now manages around 10 hectares of vines spread between the north coast and the south-west of the island. At its helm, Chris Blandy, the seventh generation of the family, upholds age-old expertise while steering the house towards responsible viticulture, crowned by B Corp certification in 2022.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Sercial come from the vineyards of Seixal, on the north coast of the island of Madeira, a cool area particularly well suited to preserving the vibrancy of this grape variety. The vines are trained using latada, a traditional pergola system widely used on this Portuguese island.
The vintage
The grapes for this Terras Madeirenses wine were harvested by hand, with a quality-driven selection staggered over several weeks according to their ripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
Crafted under the supervision of winemaker Francisco Albuquerque, the Sercial Colheita Single Harvest 2010 was aged using the canteiro system in 650-litre casks at ambient temperature until the month of its bottling in 2023. This cuvée was awarded 95 points by Wine & Spirits in 2024.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Sercial, the emblematic white grape variety of the driest Madeiras.
