    Vinum

80 percent of the harvest was not brought in due to hail; bright ruby; on the nose, forest berries, blood orange, faded violet, lilac, plum, with a touch of herbal notes; on the palate, straightforward, with gripping tannins, delicate, ripe fruit; the wine is light-footed, fresh, the acidity feels harmonious; the finish is red-fruited with a stimulating bitterness.

    Decanter

Lovely vibrant colour in the glass with pronounced aromas of blackcurrant and red cherries with some milk chocolate and violet scents. Round and smooth, this has a good density of fruit and flesh on the palate with a really juicy core before a chalky sensation comes in on the finish. Hints of cinnamon and clove accent the finish with freshly picked mint. Lovely purity with a dollop of sweetness that is so appealing. Structured and balanced. A success in the vintage. Ageing 15% new, 85% second or third fill. A yield of 10hl/ha. Less than 50% grand vin production. Manual hand sorting. 14 days maceration. 3.70 pH.

    Leve Jeff

Medium-bodied, almost light, this fresh, early-drinking, soft, vibrant wine with a core of red plums is accompanied by a touch of cocoa on the mid-palate and in the finish. The blend is 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2035. 88-90 pts

    Le Figaro Vin

Very ripe, the nose speaks of sugar-laden berries, black cherry, and the tenderness of crushed raspberry. The palate is still a little tight, even if the fruit is not far off. The velvety tannins are present, but the fresh finish restores energy to the finale.

    Description

An elegant and expressive Pomerol wine

    The estate

Located in the northwest of Pomerol, the Château de Sales is a historic property on the right bank of Bordeaux. The château has belonged to the Lambert family for over five centuries.

    The vineyard

Located in the heart of Pomerol, the vineyard of Château de Sales benefits from an exceptional terroir mainly composed of clay-limestone soils. This particular composition, ideal for the flourishing of merlot, gives the wines their distinctive character.

    The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild and wet autumn and winter with heavy rainfall between October and March. The early bud break at the end of March was followed by a cool and wet spring. A hailstorm on the night of June 18 to 19 caused a crop loss of 80%. The hot and dry summer favored a slow veraison, with the merlots reaching mid-veraison on August 10, followed by the cabernet sauvignons on August 17 and the cabernet francs on August 24. The harvest took place from September 19 to October 4, with significant selection work to enhance the potential of the crop.

    Vinification and aging

Aging in French oak barrels, of which 15% are new and 85% are one to two wines.  This measured proportion of new wood helps to preserve the fruit while providing an elegant tannic structure and aromatic complexity.

    Blend

This Château de Sales 2024 is the result of a blend of merlot (88%), complemented by cabernet franc (7%) and cabernet sauvignon (5%).
